Non-alcoholic bitters are bitters but without the alcohol. What are bitters though? Bitters are an aromatic flavoring agent made from botanicals, roots, herbs, spices, citrus peels, seeds, and or flowers. Bitters are used for balancing flavors in classic cocktails like an Old Fashioned or a Sazerac.

Despite being associated with cocktails, bitters started as a health elixir with an emphasis on digestion. People throughout the world use bitters after meals as a standalone or mixed in with sparkling water or club soda. If you’ve never tried this, try adding five dashes of bitters into a glass of sparkling water or club soda, it is divine.

Non-alcoholic bitters have been developed with benefits that traditional bitters offer but without the alcohol. Non-alcoholic bitters hold their own in alcohol and non-alcohol based cocktails. Non-alcoholic bitters are also great for facilitating digestion. Stomach aches are eased within minutes by using nonalcoholic bitters mixed with sparkling water.

There isn’t a reason bitters need to use alcohol. Many brands like Seedlip are pushing back on the need for drinks to have alcohol. There are not many nonalcoholic bitters producers. Eire Bitters is the most premium nonalcoholic bitters producer. You can find them at www.eirebitters.com. Eire Bitters offers the classic cocktail bitters but without the alcohol. Eire Bitters also has digestive bitters called the Connemara which is like a non-alcoholic Underberg.

If you have never heard of Underberg, they are fantastic and strange. They are the best hangover cure, but I do feel weird having alcoholic bitters at 7 AM. So Eire’s Connemara is the next best thing.
